Bajawwa (බජව්ව)
Music Brings the Village Together
This vibrant illustration captures a lively Bajawwa — a traditional Sri Lankan village party filled with music, laughter, and celebration. Unlike a formal concert, a Bajawwa is a spontaneous jam session where anyone can join in. Men and women gather with instruments such as the tabla, dholak, guitar, mandolin, and serpina, creating a rich blend of sound. Singing, dancing, and clapping rise with the rhythm, while friends and family share food and drink late into the night.
The warm tones and expressive details reflect the joy and togetherness of village life, where music and rhythm set the heartbeat of the community.
Bajawwa is more than just entertainment — it is a living tradition of fellowship, cultural expression, and the simple joy of being together.
